Glen Ellen Merlot
Winery: Glen Ellen Winery
Style: Dry Red
Year: 2000
Price Range: $9-13
Rating: 7.5/10

Here's a merlot review; the darling, trendy, red wine of the past 5 years or so (incidentally Merlots are beginning to run their course now...being replaced by shiraz, and to a lesser extent, red zinfandel).

Glen Ellen Merlot in the good old mag jug is typical of the nice budget priced Merlots available in great quantity today. It's color is of a bright cherry-garnet hue and there's a ripe raspberry aroma in the glass. I guess a proper reviewer would say a "ripe raspberry nose". This wine is moderately light-bodied and short on tannins, which to me is a good thing for a red in the summertime. Goes good with all kinds of foods or just plain old sipping. Nothing spectacular about this jug, but it is however, very friendly and affordable. And nobody seems to hate it.
Prices range from $8.99 to $12.99. Typically $10.99 a mag.
