In
keeping with harvest time and abundant food, here's another red wine
review.
Yellow Tail merlot is like...well...Yellow Tail shiraz. I'm beginning
to think the Aussies are a two trick pony. Chardonnay and shiraz.
This Merlot has the same body and slightly plummy sweetness as Yellow
Tail shiraz, which is not necessarily bad, but not as sophisticated
(in a jug wine sense) as a slightly dryer, more tannic and flavorful
merlot like Fetzer Eagle Peak. Incidentally merlots, especially jug
merlots, are known for inconsistancy in style from label to label.
In any case, this is a decent wine, one good with hearty fall dishes
or chilly evening sipping on the deck. But so is Yellow Tail shiraz,
and I dare you to tell the difference.
Prices range from $8.99 at "Bottles & Cases" or "Price
Club" on Long Island (a GREAT buy) to $14.99 in Manhattan. Typically
twelve or thirteen bucks a mag.
