![]() ![]() Redwood Creek Sauvignon Blanc Winery: Frei Brothers, Modesto California Style: Dry White Year: 2003 Price Range: 1.75 L- $12.99 Rating: 5.5/10 Thin, acidic and nondescript. These are three good words to describe this California sauvignon blanc. Of course the winemaker thinks differently and has the crust to describe his product as one with subtle tropical fruit flavors such as white nectarines and pineapple. If those flavors are there, they are indeed subtle. Good luck finding them. More memorable than the wine is the Redwood Creek web site. It's a sort of corny attempt to create involvement with you, the wine buyer, as you thumb through the pages of your "wine journal" or "explore" wine country. It reminds me of some of the older "Myst" inspired computer games, though the graphics are awful (a little Flash animation would have gone a long way here) and the sounds of birds and crackling fire get on your nerves pretty quickly. You can download a roaring fireplace screenie and to the Frei brothers credit, it's available in the Mac OS 9 and X formats as well as Windows. Unfortunately it looks as hoaky as the web site and is really an ad for Redwood Creek, complete with (you guessed it) a bottle of their wine on the ledge and a logo at the bottom. |
