This series is for wine lovers on a budget or people who appreciate good wine and want to sample lots of it without going broke. There are many wine reviewers and an abundance of great wines. But if you're not willing to cough up 20 or 30 dollars a bottle, then this site is for you. If you're tired of going to the "more affordable" wine reviews and seeing "steals" at $12-$16 a (750ml) bottle then this site is for you.
I'm going to talk about jug wines here. No, not gallon jugs of Carlo Rossi chablis, but mags (1.5 litre bottles) of pretty decent and sometimes spectacular wines. And always affordable. Typically $9-$12 a mag. I'm going to recommend some favorites, sometimes steer you away from some nasty ones, give you price ranges so you don't pay $15 for a mag you could have gotten for $10, comment on the better jug wine producers, and the fakes. If you'd like, you can get more information about a particular wine by clicking on the winery name at the top of each review. That will take you to the winemaker's website. |
Just remember, taste and favorite style of wine is subjective. After a while you'll know my taste and if yours differs, than don't take these reviews quite as seriously. Also remember that these are jug wines, so a rating of 8 or 9 is relative. A jug 9 would probably be a 5 by a serious wine afficionado's standards. Additionally, it's worth mentioning that the reviews at the top of the list are older and may not represent the current vintage. Always check the year on the label. With that said, enjoy the reviews and put them to good use. |
